Phase of Plateau

The plateau phase occurs when muscle tension in the pelvic area reaches its peak. Pulse quickens to its highest rate. Women breasts become fuller, the clitoris and the vulval vestibule swell. The uterus is lifted in the pelvic area.

Phase of Orgasm

This phase is also called climax. It is characterized by strong rhythmic muscular spasms in the pelvis, accompanied by sweet sensations and relaxation. Women experience the muscles of the vagina, clitoris and vaginal walls contract. Men experience the ejaculation of semen as a result of contractions of the muscles in the base of the penis. The intensity of sweet sensations varies and largely depends on the situation.

There is no evidence supporting the hypothesis that female orgasm increases during the stimulation of the so-called G-spot or the Grafenberg spot. Another myth was created by Sigmund Freud who believed that women had two types of orgasm, vaginal and clitoral. Previously it was considered that vaginal orgasm that occurred during normal sexual intercourse was much stronger than the orgasm cased by direct stimulation of the clitoris. However, Masters and Johnson have proved that the orgasm is always the same from the physiological point of view even though the perception of orgasm can be different. Both vagina and clitoris are involved in it.

The ability of many women to achieve orgasm during sexual intercourse with their partner is formed gradually with age and experience. Women often need clitoral stimulation in order to achieve orgasm. They need clitoral stimulation even after penis has entered the vagina which men can go without. Still, about half of American women can’t achieve orgasm during sexual intercourse.

Attention, affection, kisses and hugs of the partner are enough for many women. Phase of Satisfaction

During this last phase of sexual arousal a person is fully relaxed and gets a feeling of well-being and pleasure. The erection, breathing and heart rate, and blood flow get back to normal again. The duration of this phase may vary. Some women can experience multiple orgasms, one after the other. They don’t need recovery time. Men require a refractory period during which they recover to be able to have sex again. The duration of the refractory period lengthens with advancing age. Its duration varies from a few minutes to 12 hours.

At least one in ten women experiences a health condition known as HSDD (hypoactive sexual desire disorder). Can this situation be changed with the release of a new drug called Flibanserin? Can Flibanserin become a real Viagra for Women?

I am sure that a lot of women with HSDD wish to enjoy sexual intercourse, get multiple orgasms and live their life to the fullest.

Recently I watched an episode of CBS show HealthWatch. This was an interview with Doctor Jennifer Ashton who talked about a promising medication meant for female sexual dysfunction treatment and this drug’s studies.

Flibanserin was originally produced as an antidepressant. Still, according to Dr. Ashton, it didn’t work that well for treating depressions.

Don’t you find it strange that this drug actually helped about 2,000 premenopausal women to improve their sexual desire?

I don’t know why it happens. Viagra wasn’t a medication originally developed for treating male erectile dysfunction too. This was its side effect, and now what? Millions of men worldwide take famous blue pills to improve and achieve erections.

What if Flibanserin is really a Viagra for us, women?

Dr. Ashton said that women in the age of 50 years old who participated in the Flibanserin studies took 100 mg of this drug daily and in the end they got sexual satisfaction.

Sadly, the drug is still being investigated, according to that interview. It can’t just appear in the market. It should go through all the stages of a long-lasting investigational process, because female sexual dysfunction problem is way more complicated than male erectile dysfunction.

We are so gentle. We get easily stressed and our sexual desire depends on many factors including our mood, exhaustion, work, relationship, etc.

You might wonder if Flibanserin can cause side effects. I am sure it can. Just like other antidepressants it can lead to weight gain, sleeplessness and others.

But as Pfizer’s Viagra is approved for men only, women with low libido truly hope to get rid of their intimate problem with the help of a pill just like men do.

Today woman can only hope for a female Viagra getting FDA approve. Till then we can continue taking Viagra and similar drugs off label, going though hormone and herbal therapies in order to enjoy sexual intercourse and live a happy sex life.

Personally I am looking forward to learn more about Flibanserin and any other medications that one day will be able to help women fight HSDD.
